Paleobathymetry data preparation How-To
1. Extract contents of age_depth_bath_0.bz2 with any suitable archivier (like 7-zip).
2. Using Open Source tool set GMT (General Mapping Tools, http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/) ver. 4.5.9 64-bits (Windows 8) to process data.
Set table data delimiter:
gmtset.exe FIELD_DELIMITER=,
gmtconvert.exe age_depth_bath_0.xyadb -F0,1,2 -V > age_0.csv
gmtmath.exe -C1 -V age_0.csv NEG = age_0i.csv
xyz2grd.exe age_0i.csv -Gage_0.flt=nf -N0 -Rd -I0.1 -V
Add header to this grid:
File age_0.hdr
ncols 3601
nrows 1801
xllcorner -198
yllcorner -90
cellsize 0.1
nodata_value 0
NODATA 0
3. Open in GIS application, set projection (geographic with datum WGS-1984), save in suitable format (GeoTiff), calculate statistics and pyramid layers.
For bathymetry data estract firth column instead of third from original table.
gmtconvert.exe age_depth_bath_0.xyadb -F0,1,2 -V > age_0.csv

Historia de teoría de simbiogénesis: Margulis vs. Mereschkovsky y Kozo-Polyansky
Lynn Margulis (1938-2011)
Konstantin Mereschkovsky (1855-1921)
A New Principle of Evolution".

Symbiogenesis: A New Principle of Evolution Dusting Off an Ancient B. Lab Times 5: 70:
Some years later, in 1975, she and Peter Raven, a botanist and also a supporter of this theory, were invited to a panel session in Leningrad about the origins of chloroplasts, organised by the Armenian-Russian botanist Armen Takhtajan. It was then, Margulis and Raven plausibly assert, that they heard about Boris Mikhaylovich Kozo-Polyansky for the first time.
Dick Teresi: In contrast, the symbiotic view of evolution has a long lineage in Russia, right?
Lynn Margulis: From the very beginning the Russians said natural selection was a process of elimination and could not produce all the diversity we see. They understood that symbiogenesis was a major source of innovation, and they rejected Darwin. If the English-speaking world owns natural selection, the Russians own symbiogenesis. In 1924, this man Boris Mikhaylovich Kozo-Polyansky wrote a book called Symbiogenesis: A New Principle of Evolution, in which he reconciled Darwin’s natural selection as the eliminator and symbiogenesis as the innovator. Kozo-Polyansky looked at cilia—the wavy hairs that some microbes use to move—and said it is not beyond the realm of possibility that cilia, the tails of sperm cells, came from “flagellated cytodes,” by which he clearly meant swimming bacteria.

1. Canon EOS Utility 2.8.1
2. DNR Garmin 5.4.1
3. GPSCorrelate 1.5.6 (win)
4. ExifTool 8.52 (win) + ExifTool-GUI 4.08 (win, optional)
5. MS Excel 2007
6. ArcGIS Decktop 9.3 or any compatible GIS application
While taking photos, digital camera clock should be verified with GPS time, don'to forget tunrn on GPS and to record track.
Step 1. Download photos from camara with EOS Utility (in JPEG)
Step 2. Download GPS track with DNR Garmin (save in GPX format, also it is useful to save it in vector SHP format to have track visualization)
Step 3. Use GPSCorrelate to set individual EXIF geographical metadata in JPEG pictures (whole directory) in base of GPS track (check that Time Zone setting is correct)
Step 4 (optional). Extract geographical metadata just stored in JPEG pictures to list in text file, using ExifTool. In command line it looks like: exiftool.exe -T -r -filename -GPSLatitudeRef -GPSLatitude -GPSLongitudeRef -GPSLongitude -GPSAltitude -DateTimeOriginal e:\Photoes_temp\ > coord_list.txt
Step 5 (optional). Import text file as tab separated table to Excel, use formulas similar to next ones: [=LEFT(C2,FIND(" deg ",C2,1)-1)], [=MID(C2,FIND(" deg ",C2,1)+5,(FIND("' ",C2,1)-FIND(" deg ",C2,1)-5))], [=MID(C2,FIND("' ",C2,1)+1,(FIND(" N",C2,1)-FIND("' ",C2,1)-2))], [=I2+J2/60+K2/3600] to transform strings with coordinates to degrees with fractions.
Step 6 (optional). Import Excel file to ArcGIS, visualize table data using "Display XY data" context menu option (don't forget to select correct coordinate system, like GCS_WGS_1984, or another one depending on GPS data), save visualized layer through "Data->Export data" like point shapefile (SHP).

Lawrence Lessing on “war on drugs” and American mediatic hypocrisy
Reading Free Culture by Lawrence Lessing (www.free-culture.cc/freecontent/) published in 2004. I like this book much. Book is distributed wit Creative Commons license, so it is possible to cite fragments from it.
I'm really share many of this book ideas, particullary one I want to cite here. This is very important idea, specially in current critical for Mexico moment, when "war on drugs" here have left about 28000 victims, and there is no end of this.
Fragment from Free Culture by Lawrence Lessing
Free Culture by Lawrence LessingChapter 10: "Property"
Market: Concentration
[...]
In addition to the copyright wars, we’re in the middle of the drug
wars. Government policy is strongly directed against the drug cartels;
criminal and civil courts are filled with the consequences of this battle.
Let me hereby disqualify myself from any possible appointment to
any position in government by saying I believe this war is a profound
mistake. I am not pro drugs. Indeed, I come from a family once
wrecked by drugs—though the drugs that wrecked my family were all
quite legal. I believe this war is a profound mistake because the collateral
damage from it is so great as to make waging the war insane.
When you add together the burdens on the criminal justice system, the
desperation of generations of kids whose only real economic opportunities
are as drug warriors, the queering of constitutional protections because
of the constant surveillance this war requires, and, most profoundly,
the total destruction of the legal systems of many South American nations
because of the power of the local drug cartels, I find it impossible
to believe that the marginal benefit in reduced drug consumption by
Americans could possibly outweigh these costs.
[...]
Beginning in 1998, the Office of National Drug Control Policy
launched a media campaign as part of the “war on drugs.”
[...]
But let’s say you think it is a wrong message, and you’d like to run a
countercommercial. Say you want to run a series of ads that try to
demonstrate the extraordinary collateral harm that comes from the
drug war. Can you do it?
Well, obviously, these ads cost lots of money. Assume you raise the
money. Assume a group of concerned citizens donates all the money in
the world to help you get your message out. Can you be sure your message
will be heard then?
No. You cannot. Television stations have a general policy of avoiding
“controversial” ads. Ads sponsored by the government are deemed
uncontroversial; ads disagreeing with the government are controversial.
This selectivity might be thought inconsistent with the First Amendment,
but the Supreme Court has held that stations have the right to
choose what they run. Thus, the major channels of commercial media
will refuse one side of a crucial debate the opportunity to present its case.
And the courts will defend the rights of the stations to be this biased.
